At my LGS I saw a pre 68 (no prefix) Ruger Blackhawk in .357 for $495. It has a 7.5'' barrel, I think, and seems to have a low round count by looking at the cylinder and the rear of the window. It is fairly marked up with scratches and the holes for the rear screws are shinny. It has a nice crown and otherwise looks original. It's a 6 digit SN number and starts with 108,xxx.

Wonder what ya'all might think, thanks.

I'll be very interested in the outcome of this too.

Pre-Bi-Centennial Blackhawk, with old style lockwork, in VG+ to Exc. here would bring $600. If has the tranfer bar conversion kit in it, and the owner didn't keep the returned original parts, knock off $100. If like new in box add $100.

Thanks for info. He has a Super Blackhawk and two 22cal oldies too. I'm feeling kinda snug and would have to trade something to help with the cost.

The 357 doesn't have the transfer bar.

I am a serious Ruger collector.
First, the OM should have a 6-1/2" barrel & not a 7-1/2" if factory.
Next, in 1967 the serial number went as high as 108763. In 1968 it started with 108764. In 1969 they went to the prefix serial numbers.
The longer barreled guns don't sell as quickly as the 4-5/8" barreled guns. But if it has a lot of scratches all over it, we'd call it a shooter grade, and value would be around the $400 mark at best. (BTW; I contribute to the Blue Book on Rugers.)
The good news is that they are great shooters & if your plans are to use, it them maybe a bit of haggling will get you a fine OM to enjoy!

It's home! It cleaned up better than I thought. I traded a uberti and a nmbk, both 45 colts and got a hundred back to boot. It's a 1968 and has the 6.5" barrel, I tried some 358429s in 38 spl and kept most of them on a 2 x 2 sticky note at 25 paces. I had 5, 45 colts and just thinned the herd a little. It has a very nice trigger and nice sized throats too.

The frame window on this 357 is a little smaller than my 50th anniversary flat top 44. Would they both have the same grip frames? At one point did the Rugers have the same grip as a Colt SAA?
