[smilie=s: Bernie with OLD WEST BULLET MOULDS gave me a training lesion when I was driving through Fruta CO. I lived in Grand Junction CO. when I was a kid for several years. The Moulds worked great.
OLD WEST BULLET MOULD
459 440gr for my 45 70 sharps
45acp or colt 230gr rn
359 and 158gr 357 / 38 special & 125gr rn will work in 9mm If I want. the last 2 moulds are not in PIC. I did not clean the Moulds I just put them to work.

It took about 30 min to get moulds up to temp and dial every thing in I think the hot plate I have is what help me the most. have to go My wife's folks are here from OK. so I wont get to do anything I want for two weeks.

Those big bullets eat up the lead.
what is the best way to find out what this is ?

That is some alloy that was poured into a linotype machine casting mould. Maybe it is linotype.

Chain is hooked onto round opening then lowered slowly into linotype machine vat.

Linotype alloy makes the purdiest rifle boolits (.308 and under) because it fills out mould really well. Linotype is more difficult to size because it is harder than most alloys 22bhn...requires more force on sizer handle.

Cast a few boolits with it then check hardness with hardness tester. The Cabin Tree tester may be able to tell hardness of ingot without casting boolits.

Probably Linotype. If tests prove that out, mix 50% with pure lead and you still have a hard alloy of 2/6/92. You could cut it 2 lead to one lino and get 1.3/4 alloy which is closer to what I use for refle and pistol.

Thanks again for your help, I have led on order I m not set up to smelter that's why I had my first batch of 45 70 bullets made for me I have Several cast-iron Dutch oven pots on the farm but they make good corn bread and if something is cooked in those pots you will wake up in the middle of the night wanting it. Thank god there is help around the corner here. PS I miss my DAD
