I have an older .38 Super die on which I have managed, through carelessness and stupidity, to break the decapping pin. Does anyone know whether I need to order the large or small pin for this die?

It is the old straight pin style, not the newer headed pin.

Thanks for any help!

Small pin. Come in a package of 6. Probably will last you a life time.

Depends on the age. There were both small and large pin versions. Use a micrometer and check the diameter. I have 38/357 older dies one set small pin other set large pin.

RCBS will send you a package of pins in the correct size free of charge. Give them a call and tell them the info on the top of the die. They will not let you pay for them. james

Here's one for you, if they were two sizes, wouldn't there be two sizes of flash hole uniforming tools? The ones in my .45 dies measure .068 the ones in my .38 dies measure .068.

There is .010 difference between the small and the large decapping pins. As I said I have an example of both sizes in my 38/357 dies. just checked my 40 cal and 380 and they both have large decapping pins. No, there aren't two different sized flash holes in the cases that I have seen nor are there likely to be.

Going back to what I said before.... simply check the diameter of your broken/malformed decapping pin and you will be able to get the correct sized replacement. Per a conversation with RCBS months ago the tech tried to tell me I was incorrect until I mentioned that I did check the diameter of the pin I was wanting to replace. Just trying to save someone here some time and trouble. The information on the top of the die is useless if someone down the line has replaced the decapping assembly. This is mainly seen with used multiple owner set of dies.
