Well I finally got my hands on a MiHec mold. Now I know what all the hoopla is all about. Started off a little cool @ 720 degrees and couldn't quite get the results I thought I should then bumped it up to 745 and MAGIC happened! I can't be happier with this mold and it is my first HP to boot! I'm glad I have a couple in the 'mill' waiting on MiHec to decide to build 'em.
I hope this works, my first time trying to post a pic...if it doesn't work I'll try again.

Thanks - first time adding tin to COWW and it did make them look better and I believe made them fill out better.

Great job! I agree with the extra heat.... they like it hotter. Start saving... you are now a MP junkie! I bought one this week for a caliber I don't even have...... it just looked so awesome! [smilie=w:

Yeah, I know. Lunch money for the next few months is going to molds. I've got three more on the group buys now and have one of his in 40 cal (I don't even own a 40!!)

I cast a bunch with that mold with my pot at 675 (I need to check wiring, pot won't go above 700). I cast both pure and a 92-4-4 alloy. You can run your melt cooler if you preheat with a hotplate and use a brisk pace. I find a cooler melt temp with the MP molds lets me cast faster.

Anyone tried this one in 9mm? I caste a few up, sized them to .357 and loaded several but have not had any luck. I had hoped the nose would be small enough for a 9mm chamber but it seems it is not unless you seat the bullet very deal and way under OAL.

Glocks are Good - Seems like the MP 359-125 is a better choice. But, that said I have not tried this mold in a 9mm

Yeah i have that one too. I have already loaded up some of those in 9mm. I was specifically looking for something in a 9mm that was subsonic. That was why i was trying the 360640.

What is the avg weight you guys are seeing from the various pins? I know the large HP pins will drop around 145grs....what about the others? I received this mold yesterday and i am researching load data. Tks

There are multiple versions of this mold. I have one that drops a .360 solid at 170 grains.

With COWW and Penta HP I'm right at 155g

Are you sure that's not the 359640?

Checked my mold list I have and I have it listed as 360640. Could be wrong as the bullet I was referring to is two crimp 357 bullet. There is a light version of the 360640 that is going to be produced in the near future. The 640 nose profile is being used in a lot of calibers :)

Each boolit has a slightly different designation. The 359640, 360640 and the 360640 Light are all different boolits with different weights. The 640 nose profile is designated that way due to specific design parameters on the nose and nothing else.

45 Is there a listing somewhere that gives the mold number (for MP molds) and a description? Guess one could go through each of the group buys (and closed buys) and eventually come up with one, but being lazy hope there is already one out there somewhere. His site has some info but not something organized by diameter then design (with any pin options) and weight.

No.......... A lot of these were re-ran with different options at times.

I had a feeling my mold list was correct. Here is my mold that's labeled 360-640.

Is that the double crimp groove? If so, I thought those were the 359640. Now I'm confused.

I wish I could get a hold of this mold... :( (359 or 360 nomatter) I would definitely like a solid version of it, those 170gr solids look like just the ticket for shooting .38 specials with a THUMP out of my 1873 lever.

It is a double crimp groove but you can see how it's marked. It does drop them at .360. Don't know if the mold was mislabeled or what.

So besides the 360-640L (light) there appears to be a 360-640-1c (1 crimp groove) and a 360-640-2c (2 crimp groove)....is this correct? Does anyone know what the 360-640-1c solid is supposed to come in at weight wise?

I'd assume between 145-150 grains. I haven't cast any yet so I can't give an actual weight.

Go look in the Active GBs. I just put up a new thread for this one....... Cramer type with blank pin option for solid and 4 other HPs.

Taken from the GB>>>>>

MiHec 360640 4 cavity brass Cramer HP
This is a run of an earlier design produced by BRP. This will be a four cavity, single crimp groove, cramer brass HP mold that is suitable for the 38 Special, 357 Magnum and other suitable caliber handguns with cylinders long enough to suit them. It will cast at 0.360". The original weight was about 140 gr as a hollow point, which is the only way i've shot it. The nose design is exactly like the 359640 as made by MiHec ahead of the crimp grooves. It is VERY accurate as can be attested to by several board members here in either design. A blank plug could provide that as well as a round and penta HP depending on what was wanted. The following is the discussion thread.

To those that are confused about this.... the original drawing sent to MiHec was titled 359640 for the two crimp groove boolit as per my post on page 1. It's as cast band dimension was 0.359". MiHec titled the mold like that without using my numbering system, so now there is a name problem on like molds. You can call it whatever you want, but my naming system stays like it is on the GBs I run...... so any confusion doesn't occur.

I read that part about the 140gr HP weight. I have read actual results of 145gr and 149gr from the large HP and 155gr with the penta HP though. Maybe i am just splitting hairs..... I am still very green with this :P
