I'm not keepin' any of the money I make workin' at Sportsman's Warehouse 'cause every time I get paid(and sometimes more often!), I see some deal I just can't walk away from. :roll: On the other hand, I'm havin' more fun than any six people can get a license for!
Today, they put a Marlin 1895G on sale. Normally $499.99, it went down to $429.99! OH BABY, COME TO POPA!:-D:-D:-D
Aside from the usual, do I need to know anything special to cast for this rifle? Marlin's website says it has 1:20 Ballard cut riflings. If any of y'all got any suggestions on a particular boolit ya' think might shoot good, I'm open. One thing: I only use Lee molds.
Thanks, guys.

That must be the .41 mag. It is 1 in 20". The .44 is 1 in crap 38".
I think about anything you care to shoot will work great.

Jim;
Who knows - but for Lee moulds I really like the 340 plain base. It seems to shoot well in every .45-70 I have tried it in - and pretty good in my Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt with huge chamber dimensions (fired cases accept .458-.459 boolits) and huge (.456) cylinder throats! Their 450 grain plain base is also pretty good for the .45-70.

44,
it's the guide gun. It's chambered for .45-70.

We warned you about working in a gun shop.... Only Lee bullet I've shot in .45-70 is the 405 grain hollow base. It shot good in 3 or 4 different rifles I know of. I've heard a lot of good things about their 340 grain bullet also but I've never used it.

Ya' know, Scrounger, I thought about that boolit. I think I have that mold and gotta look it up.

As for working in a gunshop, yeah, yeah, I know, I know.:roll: IT WAS $70 OFF S/W SHELF PRICE, WHICH IS ALREADY LOW! WHATCHA 'SPECT ME TO DO, WALK AWAY FROM IT!?:groner: Besides, It needs somebody to love it and shoot it and oil it and hold it an'...........[smilie=1:

Jim,

Why only Lee? Although I shoot some bullets out of Lee molds I also shoot bullets out of others that work as well or better. If I were only going to shoot bullets cast from Lee Molds check on the two custom Lee molds that Ranch Dog has. His molds are build to shoot in Marlins. http://ranchdogmolds.com/ He is a regular contributor to this site and great to work with..

I have the standard M1895 in .45/70 with 1:20 rifling. It will shoot darn near any bullet I have put through it from some 287 grain RCBS 45-300-FN HPs to the 545 grain Lyman 462560 "Thors Hammer". feeds them all too.

I'd size .460" if possible.

You done good on that selection./beagle

Don't worry, your wife will tell you when to quit. Years ago I had a friend who took a part time job at the betting windows at the race tracks whenever they started one of their seasons. His wife said,"Poor Jimmy, he gets to work about 3 weeks before the bank starts bouncing checks and he has to quit". This guy was an addict. He said the best thing in the world was betting and winning; The second best thing was betting and losing. The worst thing was not betting. Fortunately he had a good wife who could control him. They raised 9 kids so I guess she got enough of the money.
