I have lees 155 mold and 160 mold, both drop .312 bullets, I lube them and put a gas check on and size them, now after I wipe their noses and any lube on base, I weigh them and I use a RCBS 505 scale and a Ballistic scale, the 155 comes out at 164 to 165, the 160 comes out at 173 to 174, anyone else have weights that much higher on their same bullets??

I get them at 162-165 grains with lube and a gas check on the Lee 155's. I figured it had something to do with my alloy.

I have several molds that produce bullets at much higher weights than published. Again, I attributed that to using a different alloy. I do weigh my bullets before gas checking or lubing and set aside those outside my desired range for remelt. I would hate to waste good gas checks on too light or too heavy bullets. My 250 gn Lyman 429 HP's actually weigh 264 gn before the gas check with WW+2% tin.

I wouldn't discount the weight of the lube in your variation.

My 312-155 usually varies based on whats in the pot. I'd say avg is 160grs, last batch I did was 165ish.

I tuble lube all my bullets, and I'd like to try pan lubing the Lee 155 cause of its 1 lube groove, I waiste a lot of lube wiping off nose and base for GC, I use Lyman GCs for all my .30 cal bullets, one other thing is I have a lee 200 gr. bullet that weighs 204 after lubed GCed and sized to .311, comes closet to advertised weight.
do you all load to weight of your bullet? I figure a bullet that Lee gives load data for 155 gr. and weighs 165 or 163 might screw up pressure?

Why not GC first ?? I use the Gator Gc and 99% are a push & snap fit, . If you want to try pan lubing, why not try conventional lube, White Label products are really inexpensive, and a "cooker cutter" is easily made from a fired case.
Why you are concerned about the lube on the bullets nose that you have to wipe it off ?? TL, let dry, and if a bit tacky dust with "Motor Mica"

I was going to try a bees wax mix, I can get 25 lb's bees wax in Cantril Iowa their Amish and Mennoniyes sell their stuff cheap, as for bullet lube on nose it screws up the seating die especially with Lee alox.I think the cookie cutter with a cut shell with mouth right at .311 or ..312 would work well. I like Lymans gc s I have 3k.

I like alloys softer than WW so my boolits always end up heavier than listed but still very consistent.

the 160 comes out at 173 to 174

Yup, my 160 finishes at 173gr and my AK absolutely loves them. Go with it--they work well.

I think Lee molds are consistent that way. On another post a while back, members were saying that the custom Lee 8mm Karabiner and 8mm Maximum molds were about 10-20 grains over their specified weights.

I don't know what Lee uses for weights in rifle molds, but it must be something hard and light weight like straight lino. I have a C309-170-F that comes in at about 183, a C312-160 that is about 170, and my 8mm Maximum drops at about 255(30gr over). The Lee pistol molds I have drop weights about where they should.
