Found a nice used Stainless Guide Gun today stamped JM on the left side no REP $549.00. But I convinced myself the reason I sold the blued one I had that was stamped REP was because I couldn't hunt anything with it in Iowa. I did like the gun and caliber however. I don't know maybe I'll go get it tomorrow.

Iowa must be a shotgun state, what a shame that something that has been around as long as the 45/70 can't be used.

I really like my GG, but sometimes i wish i had a Marlin 357 magnum lever. I will start looking for one soon. Marlins newest version has Ballard cut rifling which is perfect for lead boolits. IMO hunting would be more of a challenge also.

I do have a blued one though, marked JM.
Go back and fetch it!

I have a 357 1894 Marlin they are a sweet gun. We can use a rifle in the lower counties in the late season. But I have a 35 Remington 336.

I really like my JM marked guide gun and it is my deer gun for most shooting unless it is watching over a large clear cut then I use a 6.5 Swede.

I have a jm xlr in 45-70 and a remlin guide gun they both shoot very well xlr has a little better fit and finish, The longer barreled xlr does not shoot much better than the shorter barreled guide gun! 161 you have a bfr in 45-70 that guide gun would be a perfect match! A 10" bfr in 45-70 is on my got to have wish list. I just love this caliber so versatile.

Trouble with 45-70 use in Iowa. Scares the cows.

Not much help here, have both the 336 in 35 and the GG in 45-70, both are keepers. Wouldn't want to be without either. You can easily justify the stainless GG as a "bad weather gun". Good to have a rifle you don't mind taking out if it looks like rain.

I used my GG to put down a cancer eyed cow for my BIL. 430gr PP cast from COWW. 54gr AA2495. She was quartering toward me and turned her head to look at me. Popped her in the forehead from about 20 feet. The bullet traveled down her neck and out behind the offside shoulder. When I came down out of recoil I could see the bullet skipping across the pasture. Cow went down and never twitched. Awesome round!
