For 5.00 and postage you could have got a new Ruger solid rubber butt plate like a no 1 wears, from Numrich.

Nice little project. Will the paint hold up and not chip or fill in the serrations you will be cutting?

Flounderman, got a part number for this.....can't seem to find it on their site. Only one I can find is used -$3.95 - Sold out.

Aluminum is not the easiest to get paint to stick to unless you alodine or anodize it first. For best adhesion of bare aluminum some etching process needs to be performed.
That looks really nice. I hope you will step back with the camera and post a pic of the whole thing, that wood really warmed up.
