If I slug my barrel should the slug then easily fit in the chamber throats?
It seems like it should.

In theory yes but in reality, that depends on a lot of things. What gun, what caliber?

S&W 696, 44spl. I am getting a fair amount of leading at the forcing cone.

I had a 696 and fixed two problems with it. First was timing. It didn't index properly so opening the frame window was in order to advance timing. Minor issue.

Second was to re cut forcing cone to 11 degrees and recrown. Shot much better after that. No leading anymore.

Sadly it had to be sold.

Hope this helps.

I got a set of pin gages. The chambers all measure to .427. The lands of the barrel are .416 so I think the grooves should be .424 from my reading. Is this relationship correct and the only problem is sizing the bullets to .427?

It would not seem to make sense to open the chambers if the barrel is that tight. Has anyone measured their 696, 624, etc to provide a comparison?
