I am trying to set up my Marlin 336 to shoot a Lee 309-170 cast boolit.
I am working on seating depth and my Overall Length where the bullet just engraves is 2.441
Is this fairly close to what some of you get?

Close but only your rifle makes a difference. I quit trying to engrave as the tolerance on the nose gave a few that wouldn't chamber without double jacking, more wear on the lever and if you get, one stuck and need to unload it's a PITA.

I loaded some today and in my win 94 I put them at 2.43. Hope this helps!

Thanks
This is my first attempt at loading rifle ammunition, and it sure did seem that boolit was seated deep.

I load the same boolit in my 336- it functions and fires well at 2.55 in my Marlin. I found that if I expand the case just enough for half the gas check to fit snug, have a light crimp with the seat die and use a "normal" crimp with the lee factory crimp I get consistent chambering and good groups. Well, excepth for last night! My peep had wiggled lose ( SET the set screw silly) and had wiggled crooked; I did not notice and shot very very poorly. I was confused as this rifle is a good shooter... I found the cattywhompas peep later...I hope that was it. If not I forgot how to shoot!
Good luck!
