I recently cast some lee 7/8 oz. slugs and tried to make some loads for my next shooting trip. Everything worked out as I had planed except for the crimp. I just can't seem to figure out a good way to get a tight, normal looking crimp on my shells.
Here is the recipe:
AA Shells
31 grains of Unique
Winchester AA Pink Wad with top of pedals cut off
lee 7/8 oz. slug
The funny thing is that this load is what many people recommended. I am finding that the slug sits a good 1/4 in below where a good crimp would sit. I tried using buffer (crushed walnut shells) to fill the void, felt base wads, overshot cards, etc., all of which produced a sad mangled looking excuse for a crimp. Perhaps a taller wad for a 7/8 oz. loads will work?
I am definitely open to suggestions...:-?
