The old notch style was used on the mite-mite and silver presses. The one with the hole is for push through of the ejection pin on the new S style press

The press has a pin that goes through the hole and "traps" the punch so that it doesnt go up with the die as the ram is raised. This keeps the pin from being near the bullet while the nose is formed. As the press handle is lowered, the punch contacts the bullet nose and pushes it out.

It's an auto ejection system. When the press handle comes back up, your bullet is ejected. Very handy on the right press. On a standard reloading press, not so much.....

Cane Man:

My Corbin S press and dies are the older style (square notch, your bottom picture). Below is the Corbin Press, with a blown up picture of the pin. The pin depicted inserts through the Notch or Hole of the two ejection pins in your picture, the red line shows where on the press the pin is inserted.

Hope this helps.
