I get sooooo tired of having to validate stories passed along on the Internet. I have gotten to the point where if I see an email has need forwarded, it is an automatic delete. Two days ago, the status of some of the Hornady bullets in my wish list at MidwayUSA had been changed from, "Out of Stock, No Backorder" to "Temporarily unavailable". So something is up.
Good thing I just got done buying boolit molds for all my firearms.

Just like most components, old reloaders buying them by the thousands, new reloaders buying what they can when they can find it. I would bet there have been thousands of new presses sold to people that haven't found any powder or primers yet.

Well I can see it's a bad rummer! I think bad companies are ordering,and warehousing it back to raise the own profit times 4 over regular retail. When I get ammo at Wally World,and Bass Pro Shops it's still a normal price. I just bought 5ea of the 525 count boxes Saturday. Somewhere around a hundred dollars.Other companies are not so honest.Natches Tr./Cheaper Than D/J&G/and so on.

Feels like it is suspended already, been waiting on Cabelas to come through on a 500ct of Hornady 9mm I placed an order for on January 24th. Rapidly approaching 6 months and no signs of order being fulfilled.

There's a few PDFs on Snipershide forum that an FFL got from a wholesaler. It's posted there with a cover letter. The post on Hornady's site is from February 2012, they posted the same thing on their FB page that time. Then there's a letter signed by Steve Hornady saying they aren't suspending anything, but it's dated Sunday July 7 of this year. Really? The CEO would leave his family to scratch out a letter and post it on the internet on a Sunday for a few hundred people that are freaking out over availability? I'm not sure I believe it.

Just spoke to Hornady, it is true ! While I can't confirm the list, I was told it is going to happen and they will e-mail me the list.

I was fooled by a letter on the CMP forums into thinking this was false..... ( I'm the "Sucker born every minute... ")

Apparently Hornady plans to stop producing 150 Rifle bullet types on July 10, 2013 for the

remainder of 2013.

They plan on producing more of other bullets, Handgun types I assume.

Lists of the 150 calibers/designs will be coming or are out there already.

Many rifle shooters are PO'D for sure.

This is what you get when DEMAND exceeds SUPPLY. Tough choices and you can't please everybody. Anyone remember gas lines and odd and even days? What will it be like when demand for healthcare exceeds supply? Or when it is demand for food and limited supply? Which hard choices do you want them to make then?

Stocking up and finding alternates are choices the consumer can make rather than waiting for the suppliers or government to make tough choices you may not like..

Product Availability Update
Hornady Makes Plans to Increase Production Volume

For over half a year, Hornady Manufacturing, along with the rest of the shooting sports industry, has experienced an unbelievable spike in demand. This dramatic increase in demand is unprecedented. As stated earlier this year in our Product Availability FAQ we have been continuously growing for a number of years; adding people, equipment and manufacturing space as rapidly as we can. We are producing and shipping product at record levels and are continually looking to grow and improve our ability to fulfill orders. But the current state of the industry is such that our increase in shipments this year is overshadowed by a 200% increase in demand.

One area that we have identified that will enable us to increase production, is the minimization of machinery downtime. The largest period of downtime our machines experience is during change over and retooling to convert a machine from manufacturing one bullet or cartridge to another. Under normal market conditions, we can keep the supply chain full by making popular items on a regular basis and keeping specialty or less-used products on a seasonal basis. However, with demand at record levels, it has become difficult to justify shutting down a machine to change it over to produce a product of less demand. Therefore, we are temporarily suspending some items in order to focus our efforts on the most popular and highest demand products and ship more total product.

We realize that many of the suspended items are going to disappoint some of our customers. We have painstakingly reviewed our order status and order history and unfortunately had to make some tough decisions. It wasn't easy, but we know that we will do a better job of servicing the industry as a whole by focusing on the items of highest demand.

We are not alone; this is effectively already happening throughout our industry, but is accomplished through selective manufacture with no notification to the industry. We are simply making every effort to be up-front about our plans to maximize production.

Again, this is only temporary. This is not a permanent suspension. We will continue to push as hard as we can to meet the demand of our industry and will produce our full catalog of items as soon as we can. Please know that nobody wants to produce more and get our product to into your hands more than we do.

And lastly, we feel compelled to address some of the conspiracy theories that we have seen posted. NO, this is not a conspiracy effort to shape the industry, nor is it controlled by the government. We are simply being forthright about our manufacturing plans and our efforts to supply MORE product to the very hungry shooting sports industry.

We truly appreciate your patience during this period of time. Thank you for your understanding.

Many of us live on a fixed income and can not possibly afford the NEW prices.

Being OLD TIMERS many of us looked ahead to retirement and decided on our limitations at that time.

When a business experiences a 200% increase in DEMAND,

few could SUPPLY that demand immediately.

JUST THINK ABOUT AN ELECTRIC UTILITY.

If the business could meet the demand, they had TOO MUCH OVERCAPACITY to begin with,

and the COSTS associated with that and THEIR COMPETITORS EFFICIENCY would have DOOMED them.

They are ceasing production on some items to increase production on IN DEMAND ITEMS. You know, the items people are ordering the most of because THEY WANT THEM, and they are now backordered until the second coming.
