cleaning out some stuff. have 62 paperpatched bullets specificly for the thompson .50 1/48 twist barrel. they were swaged by me wrapped and lubed, ready to shoot. i for a short time had a thompson 1/48 twist barrel but rebarreled the gun and sold the barrel. i used 100 grains of black 2f behind the bullets with a fiber wad inbetween, i sighted in at 50 yards and could keep a hole ragged. i will send these bullets and 62 wads to any one with this kind of thompson for them to shoot for fun or hunt or any thing they want to do with them. free of charge, just be the first to give me your name and address by message to me, first come first serve, you wont be dissapointed, johnson1942

KyBill: Don’t the Great Plains conicals have a hollow base? The ones I shoot in my Pedersoli KY do. If so, why use a wad? Wouldn’t that hinder the hollow base from obturating into the barrel/rifling?

push your .54 bullet through a push through reduceing die that is 8 thousands smaller than the top of your lands diam. use number nine paper for two wraps just as idaho ron demonstrates on his sticky about paper patching a muzzle loader. your hollow base help and yes keep the wad either fiber wad or felt wad behind the bullet. it protects the paper and when it slams into the hollow base, it is instant bump up. wipe one damp and two dry patches between rounds. you will love the results both in consistant accracy and knock down power. their is a constant number of shooter every week turning to paperpatched bullets. its because they are the best. it also gratly extends the range of your gun.

PTS Yes they have a HB , my mold was custom made .a Hornady conical will fit in my mold.
no hollow base and I can change the HP pin to different depths.

kyBill, if you tell me the twist of your barrel i will do the math and tell you the perfect length for your bullet so it can get accracy at any range.

I’m still not getting it KyBill; to me HB means “hollow base”, yet your last post says they have a HB but no hollow base? Should the HB instead say HP? I understand (and use) a wad on a solid/flat base bullet.

Do the math for a 1-28 twist 50 cal muzzle loader. My lands are .501so should size to that?

garbear the diam should be .492 or .493, with .493 bing the best. however buffalo arms sells .492 bullets and im sure with number nine paper they would work fine in your gun. use a fiber or felt wad between bullet and base as this protects the paper. a bullet 1.2 to 1.3 long will shoot well in your gun. the 1.2 would be for very long rang and close up and the 1.3 very good for close up to 300 yards. good luck
