Came into a good deal on a used Taurus RB in 454 Casull. I have a few 45LC in Ruger and Marlin variety.

I'm looking for a mould that will allow me to use a CB with GC in all three. Any suggestions? I've been eyeing Lyman, NOE, RCBS and SAECO varieties. Looking to be in the 250-260gr neighborhood. Purpose will range from plinking with trail boss to all out hunting loads for pig and deer. Any suggestions?

I like Lee's C452-300-RF for 454 Casull. I get better results with heavier boolits and 260-265 is pretty much a 44 Magnum for me.

I second the 300 grain Lee. I use it in my 45 Colts, both the Blackhawk and the Puma carbine. You can load it mild to wild.

GLL, now that I like! Can you tell me more about it. How's it shoot, etc?

osteodoc08, you will not find a better guy than Tom at Accurate Molds, and as a plus, he can make a 4 cavity mold with 2 GC boolits and 2 plain base boolits. Kinda like having your cake and...you know. I have Lee molds and they work, but when you see Toms work, you will agree that he makes a very fine custom product. As another plus he can make the mold with 2 different boolit weights.

Hi GLL, that's a pretty long bullet, what are you designing it for?

I also use lee 300rf. My taurus rb in 8,3/8 with full of 2400 is a real good shooter. Tl with 45/45/10 and gas checked makes for dead dear right now!

You will probably get a lot of answers to your question. I have two molds left for the 45 colt. One is a 250 Gr. RCBS and the other is a Lee 230 2R PB. The 230 is a great plinker and Cowboy Action shooting slug. The 250 is a lot more accurate out passed 50 yards and makes a good all around hunting bullet. I shoot both of these boolits in my Rossi 92 and my Ruger Vaqueros.

+4 on the 300gr Lee..

This boolit and the Lee .44 caliber 310gr boolit are extreme performers on game. They are almost twins with gas checks and dual crimp grooves. Same boolit design sized for both calibers. The 300gr .45 Colt boolit in Lyman #2 alloy weighs 320gr with gas check here.

Cast in air cooled WW they deliver a devastating wound channel, you will have some credible expansion unless they are pushed too slow, and some very dead deer. They are also lethal on hogs.

GLL I have shot nearly the same 325gr RF GC boolit, Beartooth has one very similar. I haven't hunted with it but it is very accurate in my experience over 20.5gr LilGun.

That is one heck of a crimp on those cartridges! More like a choke. I bet they won't back out and bind up your cylinder.

Jerry

That looks very similar to the Lyman 452651 I use.

Hi 454PB, was your bullet that long?

Well, the drawing doesn't show length, but it sure looks the same. Mine casts at 325-330 grains in WW alloy.

I use a Miha copy of the RCBS 45-270SAA and a 330gr WFNGC from Mountain Molds. Both shoot very accurately from my Ruger 45 Colts and my FA 454.

Changeling / 454PB:

I have been waiting on the 454651 Group Buy for 1 1/2 years so came up with this variation in the mean time !
It will be used in my .45Colt single shot carbine.

The overall length is 0.807" without the check. I had Tom make this as a single cavity mold and may eventually send it off to convert to HP. This will drop it down towards 300 grains and shift the CG a bit. I had it made mainly as an experiment.

Hi Jerry, it's a fine looking bullet, I was just taken back a bit when I seen the length, so I figured you had something going on. Couldn't help asking, LOL.

Your pictures are always such a pleasure to see, they look so professional, almost like a skulpture!

I just have to learn to take pictures. They make it so much clearer when trying to get something across to people.
