I just went to a scrap yard where I sometimes find some good lead. They did not have anything I wanted in drums, but did have two blocks of lead, 20" x 22" x 25" with 4160 lbs marked on the one I looked at. I scratched it with my pocket knife, and it appears to be dead soft. My electric smelting pot I use for range lead is big enough to put this in, but I don't need that much soft lead. The place is Texans Metal & Scrap, 9975 Sheldon Road, Houston TX 77049.

But what do they want for said block of lead?

My scrap yard would say free for the picking up. No cranes allowed.

Then I would go home and throw my fork lift on the trailer and come back. Not a crane.

They told me 1.00/lb., but I imagine it could be bought for less.

Nice find. Glad I didn't make it, i'd be sick to see that go away cause I couldn't afford it! Hope someone gets it. A dollar a pound it the going rate here for scrap lead.
20" x 22" x 25". Perfect !
They are small enough that they will both fit in the back of my Toyota Tacoma with no problem !
Well, perhaps a little problem ! :)
I sure would like to see photos of your electric smelting pot that will handle these babies !

I just couldn't believe a little piece of lead like that could weigh so much.
Using http://www.onlineconversion.com for some of it,
20" x 22" x 25" = 11000 cu in = 180,257 cu cent,
Lead weighs 11.3 gm/cu centimeter per Wikipedia,
11.3 gram = 0.024 912 235 627 pound,
.025 lb x 180,257 cu cent = 4506 lbs.
Pretty close. Don't get a hernia!
 wow time to get some mechanical advantage

Ok, I am in Dallas and willing to go in on a road trip down I45 but just how would you break this up? I mean seriously .... sawsall? I don't have a clue about getting this on a trailer unless there is a forklift on site.

We used a chain saw to cut chunks from an old sailboat keel to fit the pot. Do it over plastic or a tarp and catch the shavings.
