I have a friend that is Sasquatch size. His hands are too big for a 1911. His trigger finger barely fits the trigger guard, pushing on the trigger as soon as he inserts his index finger into the guard.

When he holds my 8-3/8 Smith 500mag it looks "normal" in his hand. LOL. If you can picture that.

What are the options for a LARGE MAN if he wants to shoot 45acp .

Which pistols do you guys who are of the Land of the Giants stature use that shoot 45acp AND fit your oversize mitts??

EAA Witness .45. Not as big as some, but a good sized pistol, nonetheless.

Considering the safety factors in a 1911, I would consider a cut away trigger guard, if he is an experienced gun handler.

Do you think a 1911 would fit if the front of the trigger guard was moved forward? Would he be able to use all the other controls?

Maybe I'm not remembering things right, but it seems to me that years ago I saw a 1911 variant that had an enlarged trigger guard for use by troops in Arctic conditions. Norwegian maybe?

For concealment inside the pants, appropriate for presentation when you need one of thosen "ah Hah!" moments, find a "shaved" Mk.4 Webley in ACP! They run cheap because their collector value has been ruined, which makes them affordable shooters. I carry mine in an El Paso C-Force holster. A "man-sized" snubby!

Colt New Service M1917 was a .45 ACP, GREAT for guys with big hands. Mine is a .45 Colt, but ACPs are out there and use moon clips.

Another vote for the cz97. I have big hands and I wouldn't want a larger grip than stock. Accurate guns to boot.

Para Super Hawg Double Stack!

6" barrel and slide, double stack frame with mag that holds 14 rounds of 45acp.

If you can find one! :D

If he is truly a friend, get him in a weight reduction program. There are lots of them around the country and even considering the cost, it will benefit him a Hell of a lot more than a revolver/pistol he can handle.
These programs are not that expensive and some have support groups he can join and have everything that he needs

These programs are not really all that expensive, and with you as a friend he will prevail to a whole new way of life and be able to choose his weapon of choice, without your help.
Please give it a go!

He didn't say he was fat. He said he was BIG! Different thing.

Has he seen a doctor? He could have a pituitary syndrome causing much of this.
Good Luck

I'd definitely vote for the EAA Witness. Nice open trigger guard. I have large hands and it's perfect. 8)

Wow!!!

thanks for all the suggestions.

He was lamenting that a 1911 was just too small for him...his hand swallows it, it looks like a squirt gun in his hands.

the modified Artic style trigger guard for a gloved hand may be something he would consider .

I will point him here , he may lurk at first...but we all started out that way.

Thanks again.

John Wayne's Colt Single Action Army was customized by cutting and welding a Bisley trigger guard to fit. John Wayne had large hands too and this enabled him to spin the gun with leather gloves on.

Another vote for the CZ 97B! Available in either safety or decocker (97BD).

Redesigned for 2013!

IIRC, James Arness had Colt scale up his SSA 45 by 1/3 so it wouldn't look like a toy when he played Matt Dillon in Gunsmoke. Its just a matter of money I guess.

HK USP Elite. Even in my large hands it looks like a ray gun.

Funny, he is every bit as Big, maybe bigger than Marshall Dillon.

He has a hard time finding anything in the hobby to fit. He had a custom Voss or something like that shotgun made for him in left hand. He simply could not get a shotgun off the shelf that "fit" both his draw, and cheek.

So thanks, he is going to love the suggestions. If I can get him to register here, he will say hello.

I still think a Colt New Service is ideal for the ham handed, in any of the standard calibers it came in. You can get a good "Shooter" grade. 45 for about the same as you would spend on an M1911. Add Tyler T-Grip and a good holster, and it is a great rig.
