I'm going to be making a batch of 45-45-10.
It's bloody hot here in AZ right now, and I'm wondering if heating it in the sun until the solvents evaporate out would have the same effect as cooking the solvents out. I'm thinking about spreading it out thin in a sheet pan.
Any thoughts?

as long as the solvents are gone it don't matter how you do it.
you should finish them off when you melt it down anyway.

Not really sure about cooking off solvents vs evaporation, but when you do something different in a recipe or formula, don't expect the results to be the same. Cooking vs evaporation may not make any noticeable difference, but it could...

I spread it out in a baking pan and put it in the sun. It took about 3 days.

What solvents need to cook off. I've been trying to understand the reason for this. Is it bad if you don't get them cooked off? The only downfall I've heard, when not cooking off the solvents, is that you may not get the lube to dry as fast.

Personally, I don't get it either. Cook the solvents off, mix in alox, add solvent.

I made some without cooking off the solvents, just used less MS. Stuff works just fine. Solvents in the JPW are going to evaporate anyway once it's on the boolit.

I have just mixed roughly 45/45/10, tumbled and dried on a piece of wax paper. As a matter of fact, I have cut the Alox with mineral spirits to keep it more liquid, and just mix some Johnsons paste wax in.

I don't know if you are using plain stinky mineral spirits or oderless mineral spirits, but if you follow the recipe and use the oderless stuff, the lube does stink a whole lot less than unevaporated JPW.

I have plenty already made up,so no real hurry.
