I have the opportunity to purchase a savage 110 in 30-06 for $200.00
The rifle has the wood stock and the the bore looks very good. The front sight has the ramp but is missing the small dovetail
sight itself.
I this a good price for this savage?
thanks

There are 9 listed on GUN BROKER (http://www.gunbroker.com/All/BI.aspx?Keywords=savage+model+110+.30-06), all well over $200. If it's in good condition, I'd think it's easily worth that even without the sight.

If/when I buy a firearm from an individual, I ask if I can return it if I find something wrong with it. If that's not suitable to the seller, I usually won't buy it.

Snag it while you can. Sights are cheap and easy to replace.

I think if I had one in front of me for that price I would likely buy it even though I am not a huge '06 fan, at the very least I think a guy could make money on that deal!

If it is in good shape, buy it! I have had mine for over 20 yrs now, and have never been sorry. Very accurate, ugly as sin, kind of heavy, very accurate, very accurate. Oh, did I mention.... Seriously, for the $$, you just can't beat em. I've never had an ounce of trouble with mine. My brother in-law has a very nice 30-06, and I wouldn't trade for anything.

If it's in good shape it will shoot like an $800 gun.

I have played with 5+ Salvage 30-06 rifles...I have always been impressed with their accuracy, YES they are fugly, but they shoot. and for that price I would buy it.

My experience with Savage 110s is they are a lot of rifle for the money and that's a good price. I kind of have found there always seems to be room for one more when we're talking .30-06, .308 and .30-30.

With the easy switch barrel the 110 has, if nothing else, this would be a great opportunity to have a platform to try something like a .35 Whelen or .338-06 project.

I've never seen one of those Savage 110's that didn't shoot very well, right out of the box. There are "prettier" rifles out there, but none that shoot any better. Don't let a missing sight bother you. Not for the 15 dollars or so that you could get a new one for. Better still--you'd be buying a potentially great shooter cheap, so you might want to scope it. Like others have said, buy it, and if you don't like it, you should be able to quickly sell it for a lot more than what you paid for it and still be ahead.

I've paid $200 for a junk savage 110 just to save the action for a gun build.
