Yesterday I picked up I.M.R. 4227,an 8 lb can, that an 5lb of 800x.The 800 I see will do well in 357 & 44 mag.The 4227 also in full power loads.The question I have is I also load cast in 3030 3006 7.54 x54 7.55 swiss and 308.How can I best use4227 in these,most of the time I use 2400 and 3031 4895.
How does it stack up against 2400 in rifles.I only have $70 in all of it I would like to use it.Can the 4227 be loaded down in 44mag my books just show 22gr.I like to run the 44mag at about 1000fps.Any advice:roll:

Tex, the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook has many loads for the 4227 powder in rifle cases. You can also go to the link provided below. Read the whole text and that should answer some questions for you...Ray

The 4227 is a good cast powder in almost any rifle cartridge. It is best used as a full power load in pistol cases. The 800X will serve you well for a lighter load in the .44 Mag, more so than the 4227. Check the IMR website for loading data.

I like 800X, that being said, I've never got it to meter through a measure very well.
Good Luck,
