I have started casting for my 50ae using an accurate mold 325gr gc boolit and I also use the rcbs 340gr swc.I have been using imr4227 and it works well but was wondering if anyone here has or is using unique.I was thinking of starting with 10gr with the 325gr boolit but was wanting some other opinions. The gun I am using is a Freedom Arms 83. Anyone have any advice?Im new to casting but have been reloading for the past twenty years.I think I am already addicted to this casting stuff!

Hi John,

I expect 10.0 gr of Unique will give you about 1000 fps and excellent accuracy. You should be able to take those bullets up to about 1100 or 1150 fps with another two grains. I recommend not going any faster with Unique.

Do you have a chronograph? If you don't, you should.

Take care, Tom

Thanks Tom.Yes I have a chronograph and will use it.I was just trying to figure out where to start charge wise since most data is for the desert eagle and jacketed bullets.I will load some up and give it a try.Thanks,John.

Hi John,

The Speer 13e manual has data for the 50-340 SWC cast bullet but does not list charges for Unique. The data were developed in a Freedom Arms Model 555 with the 50 AE cylinder. The slowest load runs 1223 fps (AA 1680) and the fastest is 1498 fps (W296). Loads with IMR 4227 give 1230 - 1319, and 2400 gives 1333 - 1453 fps. I can see why you're interested in shooting Unique, to take a break from these bone crushers.

Take care, Tom

.Not only for a little less felt recoil but for economics.10gr of powder is better than 20 something.Well maybe not better but cheaper and I don't need a 325gr at 1400 to put a hole in a paper target. Thanks again Tom,i appreciate it.
