i dont have a chronograph and cant find one to borrow so im sure those of you who are very knowledgeable about ballistics can help me. a .50 cal barrel 28 inches long with a 1.32 twist. 125 grains by volume of blackhorn 209 powder behind a heavy duty sabot and a .452 250 grain .45 cal bullet goes 2200 ft per sec out of the barrel by most grafts on the internet. now if you sub a 550 grain paperpatched bullet in front of 125 grains of blackhorn 209 powder by volume what will the feet per sec. be leaving the barrel. i know thier are a lot of ballistic knowledgeable shooters out their so please help me. i dont want to buy a chronograph just for one answer. thanks to all for replys. johnson1942

I do not know what the velocity on that bullet would be, but I can just imagine how the recoil would feel.

zymurgy50, your correct, its great for hunting and it really snorts. recoil is harsh and one has to keep the sighting eye back a little more from the scope or the glasses will get broke. it will be for elk or larger game, the sabots will be for deer. the 550 grain paper patch shoots 6 inches lower than the sabot bullet at 100 yards but in perfect left right alignment.

Maybe offer to send someone some of your PP boolits to shoot over a chrono then you will have the data, no guessing.
