In Photo 2 I have a 45 Colt as a size reference.

Any information would be appreciated.

Looks like a revolution counter.

Thanks for jogging my memory. That does like a revolution counter, and not a real recent one at that.

I believe a "revoltion counter" is called a "tachometer"...

I've used similar mechanical tachometers for checking hydraulic motor drives on heavy equipment.

You all are right !!!!!!!!

They were used to check the rpms of any rotating shaft back in the day. It is only a rev counter. You counted revs for a period of time and then calculated RPM's.

These work best on slower moving machinery since it is hard to not have the tip slip on the shaft when running fast.

I had one when I was a Millwright. It got stolen out of my box because it was so cool some assole just couldn't resist.

For rev counting on higher speed machinery there are little Vibro Tachs that have a bunch of different length reeds which vibrate when their individual frequency is hit.

That got stolen as well!

I have 3 of these in my "stash". Used to use them a lot setting the speed on early combine harvesters. Run edible beans really slow and white clover very fast. Useful tool and out of the past.
