I have just acquired a Marlin micro-groove 336 Texan in 35 Remington. What is your recommendation for a good cast boolit? I am considering the RCBS 200 FN. Thank you, Malcolm

Good choice, if you can find the Ranch Dog 359-190 jump on it.

I don't have the RCBS mold, but I've begun using the NOE version of the same bullet. I'm sizing .360 for my Marlin 336 and thus far the results seem promising. I've been working in the 1,300 to 1,500 fps range so far and when I have the opportunity I intend to work on up to the 1,800 plus range. I believe the RCBS 200gr flat nose or a clone would be many folks first choice in a lever 35 Remington.
Good Luck,
Rick

Doesn't get any better than that for the 35 Remington.

Thanks to everyone! Larry, is that HP from the NOE mold. I looked at their website and I am not sure how the HP pins work when casting. I am used to the Lyman removable pin. Malcolm

I wish I'da known you were looking for a 35 cal boolit! I coulda woulda sent you some samples of my "Beagled" RCBS 35-200FN along with the 429421 4C I just sent you! That boolit shoots great in my .35 Whelens' and my BLR .358 Win. Browning.

Along with those mentioned, I also shoot a LBT type WFN 200 with good results.

No, it is from the RCBS 35-200-FN mould. The HP is done after loading with the Forster 1/8" HP tool on a Forster trimmer.

I have a Forester trimmer, but I never seen the piece you spoke of.Do you HP the boolit before or after loading? I just searched Brownells, and they don't list it. Do they still make it?Thanks!

OK I found it Midway between here, and there.I ordered the 1/8 and 1/16 which I want to use on my 7-30 Waters. Thanks for posting what you used.

As long as we're talking 35 Remington boolits, does anyone know if Lyman changed the configuration of their mold 358315 recently? That's one of their older designs listed for 35 Remington. I used to have one before switching to the RCBS 35-200. I noticed in my new Midsouth catalog that the 358215 is still listed with the other Lyman molds, but it's now shown as a flatnose design instead being the roundnose boolit that's been sold to 35 Rem users for decades. Is this a new change to an old design or just a mistake in a catalog?

The RD 359-190, and the RCBS 200 are the best for hunting, but for plinking any 38/357 boolit will work well, if sized right for you're bore. i use the Lee 358-158RF for target work, but it could be used on deer at close range. but i don't wan't to limit myself to close range with the 35 REM.

I have a question for you 35 Remington shooters, how about loading some pistol bullets such as 158 RFN with some Unique for the younger grandkids to shoot targets with. Any suggestions?

Anyone have an extra RD 35 mold for sale? Or the RCBS 200 FN? Thanks

Could check with Lee on the RD mould, they may offer them on a special order basis. A group buy is a possibility as well. Could also do a "Want to buy" post in that area.

Earlier, I asked a question about the Lyman 358315 mold, as it has been depicted in a catalog as now being a flatnose design after all of these years as a tapered roundnose. Nobody here responded, so yesterday, having some time on my hands, I called Lyman. After the usual extended period of elevator music, I finally got hold of a real person. It turns out that the ad that I saw is a misprint. However, my discussion with the customer service lady seemed to peak some interest. She researched the ad that I mentioned while we were on the phone, and after a bit of discussion, she said she was going to submit a suggestion to do a design resembling the ad that I saw--with Marlin 35 Remington users in mind. The old Lyman 358315 had been created years ago with old Remington autoloaders and pumps in mind. Maybe they'll consider a flatnose version. I do like my RCBS 200 FN, though.

Good job jlchucker. Wish I had thought of that. It would be nice to see more of the Lyman-Ideal round nose designs modernized to have the long flat nose shape. Meplats work better than round noses for terminal efficiency. Lyman should be reading this forum.
Again jlchucker, great idea and thanks. I hope your phone call gets something done.
Edd Badgley modified a 358315 to a wide meplat. He sent me some to work on in a 350 Rem Mag. It is a wonderful slug of about 225 grains. Perfect for the 35 Rem's short neck.

Thanks. While on the phone with them, they were referring to their products in the new Midsouth catalog and I was looking at the same page. Apparently, as the Lyman molds appeared in the catalog, the little black picture of a Ram on several Lyman molds had been placed in such a way as to make several rifle molds look like a flatnose design. The lady I was talking to noticed that right away, and said she was writing it up as a suggestion to modify some of their molds to be redesigned as flatnose versions. We'll see if anything comes of it. That ad that prompted me to call sure looks a little Ranchdog-ish to me as it's shown in the catalog. Lyman's own catalog on line, though, shows the 358315 to be the same, 100 year old tapered round nose that it's always been. Maybe the Midsouth printing error will cause something positive, or at least interesting, at Lyman.

LYMAN does not read this forum, they do not care,.... or they do not comprehend what they read very well. If so they would have quit visually inspecting their colon on several "mould" things years ago.

How deep do you make the HP cavity? (I'm guessing that your alloy is 50:50 WW:Pb).
