A Mike Venturino article in the latest Handloader Mag. Pretty good article and it got me to thinking about what I cast for. He talks about casting for all of his guns, and it got me to thinking about all of mine and what I cast for----AND, I just did a review and find that I do cast for all of the centerfires that I own. I quit counting molds someplace past 50, and have multi molds for some cals like 30's and 22's, and 357's and 44's and 375's etc. Only have two for 6mm/243 however as they are not common and are hard to come by. Seems like there is some kind of prejudice against cast in that cal and even 6MM gas checks are tough to come by. As a caster, it seems sort of a compulsion to cast for all my weapons. Here I seem to run into a few people who will cast or buy and shoot cast for handguns, but seldom run into anyone who casts for rifle other than Btroj and me. Have been shooting at the same range for a number of years now, and know a number of people there who are still amazed that I shoot cast in rifles. Guess it sort of goes to the statement that those who shoot jacketed are only assemblers and not really reloaders-------or something like that. Anyhow, just wondering how many on this forum cast for all of the centerfires that they own?

Cast for all my CF rifles? Not yet, but heading that way. My greatest limitation is by having only a 25 yard range available. This makes it hard to proof out any 100 yard group consistency. At present I am working with 35 Remington, 32/40, 32 Win. Spl., perhaps 35 Whelen for cast with others to follow. We had and lost a 100 yard line a few years ago so I have out feelers for a replacement. If I had a range where I could work, my activity in this field would instantly increase.

Sure do. I find my most enjoyable shoots at the range are with cast, so I cast for them all.

The only one I struggle with is the .223. For now I have not been able to tame the cast loads. My rifle shoots much better with (GASP ) jacketed......

Yep, I cast for everything I shoot except 22 lr & don't shoot them much since I can load cast for a centerfire cheaper than buying rimfire right now.

I cast for all. I won't own a gun I can' cast for. No jacketed bullets here.

Been casting for only a few years, but I do cast for every CF cartridge I load, both rifle & pistol.

I cast for every CF I own except the 50 BMG. I missed out on the group buy for Sweede's mould last time and I am checking his website to see if they have made more moulds. Maybe I will cut one myself.

Yeah, I do cast for every gun I shoot, but the successful reloading of cast for all of them is a large task and am still working on that.

I liked that article and the one in back about old dies. I have molds for almost everything now, but still need to do quite a bit of load development. I decided last year to at least develop a decent cast load in them all even though I may not cast much in some of them.

I can cast for most, but there's some that I'm not interested in shooting cast in. 243 is tops on that list. I can't think of a good reason for it.

I don't cast for the sub calibers either. .17 - .204 and I don't think I'll persue casting for the .14 flea if and when I EVER get my barrel...

I CAN cast everything but rimfire and bird shot, just haven't gotten around to it all yet. I've been keeping some Hornady SST's around for deer with my .30-06 since that what I've been using for years now, but this year is going to be the switch to cast for that as well. I'll have to add 22 to my mold repertoire as I build my AR.

I do cast for rifle, but some I am not sure I will ever get to work. 300winmag and 7mm rem mag. I can cast for them, but why have a magnum if you cant throw projectiles 2900+ fps. Everything that I can cast for I do. Even buckshot and slugs. I shoot 300-600 yds with the magnums so cast isnt the best for those guns.

I know I could cast heavy boolits for both magnums bringing the velocity down enough without losing too much kinetic energy. I just havnt tried it yet.

Sorry about the hi-jack. Thin Man, what mold and gun do you cast the 32-40? Just curious.

"Yep, I cast for everything I shoot except 22 lr."

What Roy Ellis said + I cast for all my muzzleloaders (revolvers, smoothbores, & rifles) as well.

I shoot cast in every centerfire rifle I SHOOT, but not for everyone I own, but I'm working on it. 7.65mm will be the last to be cast for. I DO have many rifles that have never seen a jacketed bullet.

I have cast for all my centerfire rifles, but never have much luck with anything below .243 except the .22 hornet, That shoots cast very well. The .223 CZ has been giving me fits. Can't get consistency I've weighed cases, turned necks, tried 12 different powders and a couple of other things, still have not found the magic combo yet. Shoots .4 inch groups at 100 yards all day with 45 Gr. Hornady's but I cant get under 4 inches with cast.

Baja,

Hard to tell from the pic but those cases don't look fired. So, do tell! Are you really reloading the double duce rim fire? Or are you just teasing us? :)
