Hi,
I've been experimenting with some fairly hot .45 Colt loads. I've settled on 18 gr of 2400 behind a 250 gr Lyman cast 452664 flat nose. Starline brass, CCI 300 primers. Sturdy crimp. I'm shooting in a Ruger BlackHawk Bisley with a 5.5 barrel. It's got a pretty stiff report, seems to burn all the powder as I've not noticed any unburnt flecks and in fact seems a little cleaner then my other standard round of 6.2 gr of Tight Group. Accuracy is very good. I see no pressure signs on fired brass or primer. I've not chronographed so I can't say exactly what is going on pressure wise but the physical evidence so far is that I'm not excessive.
I feel comfortable shooting this load as it's a full 1.2 grains less then John Linbaugh's load of 19.2 gr 2400 load from "Dissolving the myth".
But my question regards transitioning this load to use in my Japan manufactured Winchester model 92 carbine. Would anyone care to give me an opinion as to the suitability of this load to a rifle? I know the Ruger can handle it. I've no data on how the Winchester would stand the pressure.
I've not got a lot of posts here, I'm new to casting. I've been reloading since the mid 1970's so I'm not new to reloading. I'm a careful person and I won't take folks response to this question as gospel but I am curious to hear opinions.
Thanks,
Wayne
