Has anyone ever done a test to see how much adding a front crane lock to a S&W revolver will benifit accuracy?

Thanks,

When I was building PPC revolvers we needed to add them to maintain X ring accuracy at 50 yards.

I've seen several done where they used a captive ball and spring set up. Apparently these are available in industry and it was reportedly "no big deal" to set them up. Of course these guys thought owning your own airplane was "no big deal" too.

There is a drill jig required to properly drill the hole in the right position on the yoke otherwise one pokes a hole in the wrong place. My personal PPC revolver uses two and is an X ring shooter at 50 yds.

Brownells sells both the jig and the balls and springs for this. It's probably not cost effective to gear up to do just one or two guns, though. pistolsmith shouldn't charge a great deal to do this, either. The waiting time would probably be the killer in our instant-gratification world! ;)
