Went to a local gun show this afternoon with the family just to see what was around and stumbled across this!

Didn't have a price tag on it, so I asked the older gentleman behind the table what he was asking for it. He replied, "Make me an offer". AJ (my 6yr old son) yelled out, "How bout a dollar." Which of course made the seller chuckle, so my son replied "Ok, Ok. How about 200." That got the reply of "Well no, thats too much now. How's about 50$"

I almost fell over at this point, I've been looking around at these types of short carbines everytime I see them and can't find one cheaper than 125$ EVER & in worse condition to boot. So trying not to sound too excited I said "I'll give you 40$ right now."

Seller replied, "45$ and you take her home." Before I even had a chance to give in, he stated "Well get you 40$ out its yours." While I was handing him the cash he started saying how he was supposed to be selling guns, but the only thing he liked more than his 100$ bills was more guns. Guess his significant other was motivating his table sale at the gun show today because he had just picked up "another" 7mm mag while visiting my daughter and new grandson in Denver.

Other than the chunk missing out of the bottom of the grip part of the stock and some nicks here and there she's in pretty good shape. Looks like all the gunk in the barrel and discoloration on the metal will come of. Wiped a bunch off on my shirt at the show just to see.

Now keep in mind I don't know a whole lot about BP guns or values and the like but I am thinking this was a heck of a score for 40$.

Anyone have opinions on what type of powder and projectiles to use? I have only used pyrodex and sabots out of the 209 inline.

I can't tell exactly what you have there. I can say this though..you done good for $40. I'm with you, I never see anything anywhere near what you paid. Clean her up good, make sure there is not a charge already down the bore with your ram rod. I'd suggest you give patched round balls a try. If you are going to hunt with it, you might consider a Lee mold in one of their full bore boolits without a sabot. After clean up and making sure it is not already loaded, I would put a no 11 cap on the nipple and hold the rifle three inches or so from a dusty spot. When you squeeze it off the dust should fly if the fire channel is all ok. If it is at least a 50 caliber, I would start with a mild load of 50 to 60 grains just to see how everthing works. You can go up from there. I have used pyrodex a lot and it does work for me. But if you have a source for real black powder, I would go that way from the beginning. I would keep my range to 50 yards in order to check it out for accuracy. Have fun.

Sorry guys, forgot my phone wouldn't take a good enough pic of the barrel to show the inscription.

Its a Traditions Buckskinner in 50 cal. Its got a really cool looking green laminate stock to boot! (Just checked and the photos I uploaded to the web did full screen if you click on them! So guess you can see the stock lol)

Guess it has a 1:20 twist.

What type of BP would you guys suggest?

Here's an article about mine, the exact same rifle less your laminated stock. http://www.castbullet.com/shooting/buck.htm The fiber optic front sight in the article has been discontinued. I really like my "Buckskinner." I use the Lee 320 gr REAL bullet in it with Pyrodex RS.

that's a great deal, you'll love it. it used to be nobody wanted anything to do with front stuffers, but now it seems anything that goes boom is bringing a good price. try and find some "Real" black powder, pyrodex works, but just not the greatest for sidehammer's. i've found pyrdex a little more messy also, blackpowder rifles are fun to shoot. you might want to find a book on muzzle loading at the library, that way you can learn the basics. when i first started with muzzleloaders i did'nt know nothing about them, a good freind showed me the basic's.

Had a friend/mentor at the range this morning, and he showed me how it works, how to properly load & clean it and the rest of the basic. Even donated a cool rabbit fur covered possibles bag, horn, and other goodies to the new cause. I have a 209 inline made by traditions also, however hadn't ever shot "Real" black powder or balls/patches until today. It's definately alot more fun that the sabots and 209 primers. Shot pretty well to boot!!!! Have a feeling though that my girl is gonna hijack it during muzzleloading season this year.
