first try at casting. cast some lee 452-252 SWC and some Lee 452-200 RF. cast from wheel weights. i hope one of these will be what my 1917 s&w likes.

They look good especially for your first try. If you ever use the SWC in an auto I would seat it a little deeper, about 1/32" of the lead above the mouth of the case but they will be fine in the auto rim brass.

thanks, i cast 200 of each, the swc first then the rf. ended up with 182 of the swc, i have not counted the rf yet, but they cast better. maybe i learned from the first batch! Anybody have any tips for loading for the 1917? How about lube, will liquid alox (tumble lube) work, or do i need some type of paste? i'm thinking about a mixture of paraffin, petroleum jelly, and oil treatment. pour around the base to cover the grooves, let it set up, and push the boolits out?
