I had time off work last week which allowed me to work on a Martini project from bits and pieces that were in the junk pile.

The barrel was just a $25 dollar special from the LGS in the usual condition, very dark bore but strong rifling, the stock some downgraded blanks originally from Geoff Slee and the action, well less than flash and showing lots of abuse over the years.

Despite numerous applications of Hoppes and a bronze brush that bore would not just clean up. I resorted to lapping with steel wool coated with green Dilux abrasive for about 2 hours, before any resemblance of shine started to appear. Fitted the action with an old '94 Win peep sight and a standard 303 foresight to complete that equipment.

The external barrel and action still require a final polish and preparation for blueing. First shots at 50m with cast show a rather promising results with good clean holes but a bit more fine tuning required to lower the trigger pull down from about 6 lbs! Overall for a home project that has only cost me $150 plus a lot of time, I'm bloody happy with the results :Fire::Fire:

Nice rifle! I really like my rebarreled sporter, but it is scoped. It really needs sights like yours, and then it would be really slim and handy.

That's a lot of rifle for $150! Great looking stock. Well done.

The good thing is it is dead simple to drop another barrel on if you can find one. Good purchase.
