I cast some up today for my 38. They are so easy to cast and work with. Just got my wondering, in this semi wadcutter world, am I the only guy that shoots round nose bullets anymore ?

Nope, you are not alone. 358311 is a classic boolit and shoots long range better than any boolit in my arsenal. ... felix

Count me in. I like the 358311 also. It seems to be as accurate as any of the 3 or 4 SWC boolits that I cast.

If you have a .45 Auto, try the Lyman 452374 (230RNPB) patterned after the GI hardball. Other makers make clones of the Lyman.

I like this one. We sold it under DC 38-147-RN. Sure enough a tack driver. Saeco mould.

90% of my .35 cal. pistol shooting is a 158 H&G #39 RN. It is the most accurate bullet I shoot ! Nick

Greenhead, you are most certainly NOT the only reloader shooting RN boolits--as the posts above bear out. The only knock against them--unspectacular performance in animated targets--has NOTHING to do with their intrinsic accuracy. As far as that goes, I'm sure that receiving a #358311 at 800 FPS won't improve one's health at all.

In an article that Ken Waters wrote 20+ years ago regarding the 32-20 WCF in revolvers, Mr. Waters stated that "traditional RN" designs lacking a sharp front shoulder driving band may "center themselves" in the forcing cone and bore more readily than designs like the Keith with their curbside-inspired leading edges. I do know that RN boolits DEFINITELY ease the use of speedloaders for revolver reloading on the firing line. Flush-seated wadcutters are a PITA, and sharp-shouldered SWC's are not a lot better.

If you aren't hunting larger game--and don't mind ragged holes in paper targets--the RN will serve you very well.

i shoot a lot of jackrabbitts at anywhere from 20 to 75+yds and they seem to do as good as the swc. i seem to shoot 1 as much as the other. i have a reddot atop my ruger nm bh and the lrn,s seem to shoot poa better at longer ranges than the swc,s. if you like it, shoot it!

You are not alone...I shoot more 358311 than any other bullets. All things being equal, which they never are, the RN bullet will deliver better accuacy than any other. They are not a good social or game bullets, but those aside, they are my bullets of choice.

I like the RN boolits in my .44's and .45's, do a lot of swaging to make them round.

Swaging is great for nose shape changing boolits.
