I read about Cherry Red case hardening compound on another forum and wondered whether anyone here has used it or has had any experience with it, particularly with frizzens? I've read that Kasenit is soon heading for the endangered species list, and if so, Cherry Red may be a nice substitute especially since it doesn't need as high temperature as Kasenit to do its job. Btw, it is available from Midway, but not Brownells, and from the manufacturer if you need a 5 gal. pail of it.

I used the Brownells case hardening compound and have not had to touch my frizzen yet. However, I am only on my third flint so far, WAG 80 shots per flint. dunno how long the frizzen is supposed to last before I have to repolish and reharden, but my flints (I prefer french flints to english ones) barely leave any evidence of scraping at all.
