Got my permit to hunt the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge in Dorchester County Maryland for the early ML season , the shotgun season and the late ML season . This place is out on the eastern shore and you may take Sika Deer and whitetails .
Also sent in my lottery application for the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge on the eastern shore of Virginia . This is for the gun season only and is also only for Sika Deer .
This year in MD , I'm gonna take my new Thompson Center Encore Pro Hunter all three trips . As I have a 50 cal ML barrel and a 12 gauge slug barrel as well .
To tell the truth , the Encore was bought specifically for hunting the Sika's in MD and VA [smilie=1:

Went to the "Blackwater" NWR today and hung stands for the early ML hunt and for the shotgun hunt .
Both are one day deals ! The ML hunt is this coming friday and the shotgun hunt is the monday after thanksgiving . Oh and if I'm ambitiouse there is a late ML day on I believe the 15th of december . If I go back for that I'll just go back to the same spot I'm using this friday [smilie=1:
Got into what looks to be a couple nice spots :drinks:
And in the process , the man eating GD mosquitos got into me :(
But that will be remidied friday with my trusty "Thermacell" :drinks:

Well left the house at 1 AM to drive the 200 miles to the Blackwater NWR and do the early ML season . Pulled in the refuge parking lot to sign in at 4:45 AM .
Was up my tree by 5:45 AM and the sun was up well enough to see around 6:45 AM . Stayed in my tree until about noon when it started to sprinkle . They were calling for thunderstorms , so I went ahead climbed down and loaded up and left .
Unfortunately I didn't see any Sika Deer from my perch , I did however hear twelve shots , some close some not so close .
Here is a pic of the sign where you turn into the area I huntes ,

And here are a pair of pictures I took in another area on my way home . I would truly love to get out on that island a time or two . Thats an area they don't allow hunting and I bet there are some bruiser SIka Deer there !
