i posted this in the lead section without much success so i thought i might have better luck here. any one have a good source for 20-1 lead alloy? i recently ordered some from rotometals just to keep shooting but the price was pretty high at over $3 per pound. the anitimony man was a really good source but he is no longer doing business.

thanks

Why not just make your own? I dont use that hard of alloy but just mix up whatever I need.

20 - 1 is too rich for me. No way I'm going past 2% tin. You could buy some "bullet lead" from a member here, lets say 100 lbs for $150.00 delivered or less, and add about $40.00 worth of tin, and you would be at less than $2 a pound. That would be a nice alloy.

mixing up my own alloy would be great if i could find a reliable cheap source of pure lead. standard range lead and wheel weight lead is too hard and causes major leading and poor accuracy in my old guns barrel. if you know of a constant source of cheap pure lead and pure tin then that would be just as good as a source of 20-1.

Rotometals, and Buffalo Arms are both good places to purchase known alloy. John Walters is also good for very clean certified alloy but he like many others is pretty swamped with back orders.
The one thing you need to keep in mind with Rotometals prices are that is the deliverd price when you get over 100$

I recomend John Walters. Last time I bought 20:1 alloy from him it was $2.00 per lb. As he shoots in our local matches, he just brings it along and I get it from him at the match. Very nice guy. If he has to ship it, he uses USPS Flat Rate boxes so the shipping is nowhere near what other dealers charge.

i have ordered from both buffalo arms and rotometals, while both are stand up businesses they are also too expensive to keep ordering from. $2 a pound would be fantastic, how can i get ahold of Mr. Walters?

thank you

He advertises in Black Powder Cartridge News. His phone number is (405)799-0376 or his email is: tinwadman@cox.net

His latest advertisement in BPC News still lists $2 per lb for 20:1. The alloy comes in 1 1/2 to 2 lb ingots, just the right size to go into a pot. He also has other alloys available to include pure tin and pure lead. If you need fiber wads, he also carries those.

mixing up my own alloy would be great if i could find a reliable cheap source of pure leadCall around to the scrap/recycling yards. Ask if they have any sheet lead which is Bhn 5. Latest load was 231 lbs at $0.65 a pound

Also visit the thrift stores and look for any metal items that are stamped PEWTER. Couple of months back, found 5 pieces that weigh 6 lbs for $19.95. Modern pewter is 90 to 98% Sn which retail sells for $15.00 a lb
