Is it best to use the lower crimp groove all the time on the .357 mag loads? I'm in the market for a .357 lever gun and I hear using the bottom groove leaves the OAL too long. My standard load is 14.8 grains of 2400 under the 358156. I have room to seat them at the upper crimp groove but I've read the upper is for .38 loads. Is it safe to seat all my .357 loads in the upper groove? I want to be able to share loads. Thanks in advance for any input.

The nice thing about this design is that it allows seating to the depth required for the application. My method is to seat the boolit as long as possible. If crimping in the rear groove will allow proper feeding, it also allows the greatest powder capacity and less "jump" to the throat/leade and or forcing cone. I've learned to be very careful with any design that allows deeper seating....pressures rise dramatically with top end loads. Work your loads up as if using a new boolit if you change seating depth and crimping.
