View Full Version : Question about primers for .38 special large pistol versus small pistol primers.

Never mind measured em looked at em yes they are small pistol primers in a large pistol primer box... LOL sorry for the post.. Their diameter is .175 do they even make large pistol primers with this diameter? and do large pistol primers even fit in regular .38 special brass? Probably not huh..

Large primers were used in some .38-44 and early .357mag ctgs. None in recent years. Someone with some real knowledge and dates may weigh in on this with more specifics........

Some of the earliest .38Spl cases were made for LPP. I have/had (don't know if I can still find them. I "stored" them very carefully!) a few of these cases. I originally thought that they were a manufacturing mistake, but someone in another post told me that some of the original cases were made that way. I don't know dates, or why the change was made to SPP.
