Finally, finally, FINALLY, after all these years, I drew a moose permit!!! I drew a bull tag for the October season in zone 3, the area I live in. My son is the subpermitee. I'll let him be the shooter and he can decide which cast boolit rifle to use: The Marlin 45-70 or the Mauser action 35 Whelen. I'll back him up with the other. Yahoo!

Take the Marlin 45-70, and don't look back.

Good luck! I lived in Caribou back in the early 60's and meese were a protected species back then!

Yes Shuz, things do change. Back then the deer season was 6 weeks long; you could shoot either a buck or a doe and you rarely saw a moose. Now the deer herd is way down with a shorter season and, in my neck of the woods, no antlerless deer permits. Yet the moose herd has grown immensely.

Congrats! I was thinking about Maine moose hunting the other day. I was working in Maine last fall and a 72 year old lady I met finally drew a tag. She used a .450 Bushmaster and her husband was her subpermittee. They were way up North (don't remember the area but it was a good one!) and she got a small moose at about 200 yards.
