30-30 question

Guys, quick question: I've been using 2.5cc IMR4831 in my 7.62x54r with the remainder filled with COW, so...

What kind of velocity and pressure would I get in a 30-30 with the same powder charge, no COW? (The 30-30 has a useful case capacity of about 2.5cc.) My guess would be that pressure should be a little lower, and velocity a little higher...

What say you?

One caveat, weigh your charges. If I went purely by lees volume system, most my semi's wouldn't function.

I get excellent results with 35 grains of 4831 behind a lee 150 grain flat nose in my NEF 30-30. No signs of pressure and some unburned powder.

You didn't mention the weight of the boolit. But pressure should be less than 30k cup with any weight boolit. With the 170 gr boolit you should get from the mid 1800's to 2000 fps. It will give your boolit a gentler push at the starting gate.

I get excellent results with 34g of H-4831 and Lyman's 311291 in my .30-30's. Velocity is 1835 fps.

One of the last IMR reloading pamphlets shows 150 grain j words flying at 1925 fps @ 24100 psi with 38.5 grains compressed in a Winchester 30-30. I suspect a real cast boolit would fly 100 fps slower.

36.5 grains of IMR 4831 sent a 170 grain j at 1795 with 25100 psi .
