Loads for 311291 in 30-06?

Anyone have a favorite load with a lyman 311291 I. The 30-06? I'm thinking of loading up some for my 03-A3. Thanks.

16 to 18 grains of 2400

Start with 28 gr of IMR4895 (or 27.5 gr H4895) and work up in 1/2 gr increments. Somewhere between 29.0 and 31.0 you should encounter happiness.

I like 34g of 3031. It has worked well in several .30-06's that I have owned. 2 different -06's shot less than 1" 5 shot groups @100 yds with this load. Velocity is in the 1950 fps area and heat treated 311291's were used.

10-12 grain unique gives me under 1 inch at 50 yards nice light load tks ken

Thanks for all the info. When you guys load 10-12 grains of unique do you fill the case with anything else to make up for the light charge? I would try Trailboss but it is not available locally right now.

A filler is not used with unique nor is it recommended in the manuals . I have used 4198 for good med load and I use a filler with that one. The 311291 is a very good design I use it in my 30-30 ack imp with good results. I also used it in my ar15 300 blackout it was a real tack driver but the round nose gave me to many hang ups in the AR 15. tks Ken

My '03-A3 and the 311291 have a love affair with Unique.

It goes without saying .......BUT....when using 10 - 12 grs. of Unique, be certain you have a loading technique that will guarantee that there will be no " Double Charges."

I agree and use a small pencil flashlight just for that purpose. Been loading that round for over 45 years in 2 different 03 A4 and now a t/c encore heavy custom barrel and I still reach for the flashlight to check the loading block tks ken

I used 12 grains of unique today. Works good. I will probably stick with that.

My next Project will be the 308 win. Probbly start with the same load.
