Hello gents,
I have a BRNO vz24 in 7X57. I bought it some years ago. I shoot it occasionally with reloads. Could you guys help me identify it please? It is a shorter carbine style with a bent bolt. The front of the stock is "channeled" and it has two complete sets of sling swivels. Thanks in advance, Steve

sghart3578,

Welcome to the forum. Looks like you have a nice rifle there. The Czechs built literally millions of Vz24 rifles for export sale around the world between the world wars. Nazi Germany swallowed up their country and used the captured rifles to support the Nazi conquest. Most of the one's I've seen are cambered in 7.92x57, straight bolt and with a 23.6 inch barrel. Your gun might have seen service in South America, but that's only speculation. I've only scratched the surface for you.

I hope this helps,

What he said. Probably South American, as they were still big on the 7x57 in the 20's-30's and bought a huge number of Vz-24's from BRNO.

Nice rifle, but there are a bazillion of them out there. Their main value lies in their being a wonderful basis for a nice sporter, IMO.

VZ24, both European and South American versions are great rifles. The big issue with the SA versions is pitting, especially below the wood and quite a few have very bad bores. Must have been the environment they were used/kept in along with poor maintenance.

Got two right now, one in 8mm and another in 7mm. Nice shooters, especially the 8mm. As long as there is no historical significance, you can make a nice sporter out of them.

Hey guys,

Thanks for your input. It was very helpful and informative. This rifle is a keeper for me, I didn't expect it to be a buried treasure so to speak. It shoots full house jacketed loads very well but I mainly shoot 160 gr cast lead bullets over 16 gr of 2400. Very mild and accurate to 100 yards.

Thanks again, SH
