I just bought a new Rem 700 in .308 (the Milspec 5R, basically a heavy-barrel, synthetic stock varmint rifle) and I intend to shoot it with cast boolits only. I have 100 new .308 cases which I will be loading with boolits from an Accurate mold. I was wondering: should I fire the new brass with a full-charge load using bullets before I use them to work up the loads for boolits? I thought that I read somewhere that this was a good idea to make the brass expand with a full-pressure load before using boolits. Any suggestions? Thanks.

No.

Regular cast bullet loads will generate 15 to 20 thousand PSI.

That is plenty or pressure to "expand" the cases before you "resize" ( unexpand ) them.

You are thinking too hard.

Load 'em up.
Shoot 'em up.
Enjoy 'em.

Thanks Williamwaco...I really didn't want to contaminate this rifle with j-bullets unless I had to. thanks again
