Have taken it to several local gun shop with no luck. Some of the pictures i have seen of the 99 and the 38 have looked like mine. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Should not be much of a problem to identify, but without a photography it is impossible.

Why do the pictures post like that, left handed?? I'm no expert but I think you have a 38, two holes in front rec ring, my 99 has just one. What is the groove diameter, believe 99 was 31 cal and 38 was 6.5 cal.

You have a Type 38 Carbine Arisaka.
If you post a clear picture of the markings on the left side of the eceiver, I could tell you more.
The Mum appears to have been cancled via chisel strikes.

The difference in bore size between the 6.5mm Type 38 and the 7.7mm Type 99 should be pretty obvious. Nice mum, though.

Reversed negatives?

Taken with the aid of a mirror?

It sure did look strange to see what appeared to be a left hand Arisaka.

Actually, I think some of the digital cameras have a setting for reversed images. Please don't take my word on that as gospel, Istill haven't figured out how to download pictures from my new phone.

Perhaps the "Nagoya Arsenal" made the carbine.

Here is a link to the various Japanese arsenal markings.

Sweet looking mum. Do you mind telling us what you paid for it. Keep in mind as well many were converted to 6.5x257 wildcat. 257roberts case sized up.
