The HGTV website featured a segment titled, “Classic Fourth of July Table Setting Ideas.”The photographs show bowls of fruit and a jar of lemonade sitting atop Old Glory. They called the flag an “unconventional table” linen.

“Drape a large American flag over the table as a bright and festive table runner,” HGTV suggested. “Use a nylon flag so spills can be easily wiped off and the flag can later be hung with pride on a flag pole.”

On Wednesday HGTV removed a link to the page and issued an apology.

“This was a regrettable use of our flag and it never should have happened,” HGTV said in a statement to Fox News. “We sincerely apologize and have removed the post from our website. We want to assure our fans that HGTV is proud of the American flag and everything it symbolizes for our people.”

This should have never happened in the first place and someone didn't have it all togeather when they came up with this not so bright idea.

The problem is, they WEREN'T thinking. It's a shame that what is just instinct to so many of us here, even requires thinking on the part of some others.

IIRC, US code USED to forbid the use of the Flag in such manner. The old US Army Officers Handbooks have a section on proper flag usage. No article of clothing or such is to be made from a flag. See Bush seniors socks?

Burns my biscuits too, but they have a right to do what they like according to a USSC ruling via the 1st Ammendment. But still.......

That's the type of thinking (not thinking) that will be the end of this great country. Just like the disrespect I see at high school football games where people don't stand, remove their hats or face the flag during our national athem. Urks me to no end.

Come on Officers manuals, Girls scouts handbooks, Boy Scouts handbooks, The FFAs manual, Roberts rules all have sections on PROPER display and hanging of the Flag, along with encyclopedias, Internet sites, and the instructions that come with a flag when purchased. This wasnt ignorance it was plain not carring and disrespect of the flag and what it stands for. Plain and simple. If it wasnt for people complaining it would have been left up. These producers and media people plain dont care about Tradition, respect and pride. The real shame is this will up te ratings for them since people will tune in to see it. The all mighty dollar is what is driving these people. I can remember Top Gear on history channel doing a special on Mitubishi ( sp) ( the makers of the japenese planes) on december 7 one year. Yep honored the maker of the planes that Bombed Peal Harbor on the aniversary of the bombing. Its been going on for years, The Supreme Court has even upheld it as free speech, (disrespecting the flag). Had family that didnt come home from ww2, some in Korea and Vietnam. This is all a slap to the fine members past and present of our military and armed forces. Its also insult to real americans
