Bought a .17 Remington and have no interest at all in the caliber, have enough .223's, .222's, etc.
Has anyone ever and/or any thoughts on the possibility of a .357 Maximum rimless?
Is it possible to have essentially a straight cartridge headspace on the rim like a .45 acp, I believe that .223 brass could be cut down to make this, am I wrong, right, and/or crazy?
Thoughts please.

Sounds about like a modernized .351 WSL.

.35 Remington will do anything what you are talking about and more. Dies and cases are available without any problems. If you want more, a 358 Winchester and use surplus 308 brass.

just my thoughts, but if I had a sweet little gun like that I would never leave that cartridge class. I would consider 6x47, up to 300 bh. Nothing like a nice lite rifle!

The .300 Blackout/Whisper would work with that bolt.

The OP's .357 Max idea is cool. It went straight to my short list of future projects. I've got a pile of 5.56 brass already, now I'll keep my eyes open for a bargain rifle to modify.

Thanks for the replies, it gives me some thoughts, the 6x45 and 6x47 crossed my mind as well, I won't rebore as I really want a 22", maybe though a 35 Remington would be the bees knees. Just will have to open the bolt face and was trying to avoid it.

The problem I see with a long straight case is feeding geometry, getting the round to go from an angle when it comes out of the magazine and then go straight into the chamber. I could be wrong on this, but I think I would try some mock ups with dummy rounds before I got to far into the project.

What about the .25 Copperhead (.222 necked up)?

My model 7 is chambered in 350 Rem Mag and is quite possibly my favorite rifle I own. With the 20" barrel and 6 pound weight it balances perfectly.

Howdy !

.45ACP is little more than a severelyh shortened .30-06 or .308. There's small subtle differences in extractor groove, etc.... but one can
( and people have ) made .45 ACP out of rifle brass. Some talk seen these of making .45ACP from those small-primered .308 cases.

Notional .357Max "rimless" does sound a lot like a re-bop of .351SL. That case has a fairly thin rim, though.

The 7X33 Sako is an interesting samll game round, and brass is available. That has light rifle smell all over it.

The "Cherman" " 8mm Kurz " is another Euro-spec case, that could fit a light rifle niche. Hornady even makes a light 8mm ( J-word ) Spitzer
that would be a perfect fit w/ this case.

*** For a .35cal light rifle app, might I suggest " .357AutoMag " ? Cases can be made from small-primered 6BR or 7BR brass.
Case capacity is ample enough, and accuracy of my 22" carbine was outstanding ! ***
