I'm very proud of my shooting friend Bryan.

A yr. ago, he knew nothing at all about precision shooting , reloading, or casting. In these 3 areas , he has come a long way in 1 yr.

During the past several months we have both been enjoying shooting plain base .30 cal. bullets out of the 30-06 Springfield and the .308 Winchester.

Here are 2 targets that he fired today out of his 1903 -A3 Sporter rifle. Needless to say he and I both were proud of his accomplishments today. These were his own reloads.

Good job mentoring. It really helps having someone who knows what they are doing.

Thanks for those kind words, but often I wonder if I really have any idea what I'm doing ?

Bryan deserves the great majority of the credit !

That is some very fine shooting. Looks like he has that load dialed in about as good as it gets.

Ben, tell him not to change a thing. I have got to try a plain base myself sometime.

Having a range buddy makes it so much more enjoyable. I'd say you are both lucky. With you to shoot the bull with, how could he go wrong.

I've got a 4lb. jug. I guess that leaves some options open for me.

A jug of Herco will load quite a few rounds at those levels.

And offer MUCH fun.

I read about shooters having problems with gas check shank sizes, g/cs that keep falling off, complaining about the prices of factory gas checks.

Ummmm, I just reach for more of my plain based .30 cal. cast bullets and keep on having fun like you excess650 ! !

All of my thirty caliber molds have a gas check shank but I don't have a problem loading them without the gas checks . I haven't even tried to throw them as fast as starting loads for checked bullets though so perhaps that's why no problems huh? My short range out back is almost forty yards and I really don't need a lot to get a bullet there . If I was going to shoot the longer range I'd use more powder and gas check though .
