Well,
Today I purchased my first lever action.

I got a Rossi 92 .357magnum
20" blued, with a saddle ring.

This weekend I am going to the gun show to sell one of my SKS's to help recoup the cost of the Rossi.

Unfortunately, I won't have my hands on it until next Saturday, but oh we'll.
I'll have it soon enough

Congrats! Good luck with selling the SKS. From what I have seen in gun shows if you price them too high they just sit there. Too many folks remember what they used to cost. AR's and AKs did not seem to have that problem with the current gun scare.

I was hoping to have enough left over from my tax return for that exact rifle. (HOPING until I woke up to about 2 quarts of oil under my engine). I've never owned a lever action, but used to borrow my dad's .30-30 for deer and love how they handle. I didn't think much more about it, until a Cowboy Action guy at my club let me test drive his Rossi .357. The sights could maybe use an upgrade, but the basic weapon looked and functioned great.

I thought it would be a slick setup. It could share ammo with my .357 Smith. It could be loaded nice and hot for the local white tails, or wimpy for blasting coffee cans. And in our current anti-gun climate, it's about as politically correct as you can get. The .357 always seemed like a versatile round. An excellent man stopper and decent "critter gitter".

So--congrats on the the new hardware. Update us when you get her out. If I can ever scrape together the money, that's the exact rifle I've been lusting after.

Greetings
Welcome to the Rossi Lever flipper club. I have two and both in 45 colt.
My first center fire rifle was a Marlin in 32 Win. Special. Popped all sorts of unsuspecting 4 leggers with it.

Congrats on your first M92. I have the same rifle (w/o saddle ring) and it is one of my favorite firearms to shoot. The more I shoot it the smoother the action gets. So enjoy it and shoot the snot out of it.

Thanks

I'll have to keep that in mind

I know I won't get out of the SKS what I put into the Rossi, but it sure would be nice to cover about 2/3's or 3/4's of it.

Congrats, together with some fine home cast boolits, you'll be happier then you'd be with the sks.

Good choice. They feed slick in my Rossi rifles.

Congrats! My second rifle was a levergun, something odd happened after my second levergun. Several more have showed up since, no idea how that happens. M92 will probably be my next one, or maybe a another 336, or a pre-64 94, or.....

I really dig my 92 in 357. Pick up the steve gunz dvd and slick it up. They can run real nice.

Congrats on your Rossi. You will love it. They amazingly accurate rifles at a good price.
From my personal experience with my Rossi, I suggest this to you; Go buy a can of brake cleaner. Take the butt stock off, open the bolt and while holding the rifle barrel up and with the fore grip wrapped in a couple of rags to protect it, spray out the receiver thoroughly. There will be old cutting oil, shipping oil and a myriad of dirt and what not in there that will cause you some irritation later. When you watch the gunk that comes out it, you will be amazed.
After that lube it up with your favorite gun lube and enjoy. After around 200 shots the action will start to really smooth out a bit and it will get even better.

Well, you've gone and done it now! You might as well start a line in your budget for the next one, and the one after that, and...... They're addictive, they're so much fun and an effective arm at the same time. :)

Congratulations, and what ever you do, don't leave it in the gun safe as they tend to breed in the dark. I swear that every time I open the door, a new lever appears (at least that's the story I tell the wife, and I'm sticking to it.)

Great rifles, they are usually keepers. You won't regret having a '92 lever action like that.
The saddle ring works good for carrying in the field with a single point sling. I read Junior42 makes some good ones.

ohhh, i never thought about it with a one point sling.
thats a genius idea.

great rifle, the rifle in my avitar is a 38/357 Rossi. I bought it used as a back up rifle and for learners coming to the range. Wrong! It has become my most used rifle! Have fun with it, mine lives on 38 cowboy loads. I have a few hunting boolit moulds, I must get afield with this one.

I have a Marlin in 38/357 and it's the funnest gun I have. Accurate, reasonably powerful, and very little recoil. They work well with cast bullets, just be sure to have plenty of rounds loaded, they can really gobble up the ammo!

I have the same rifle without the ring. I have more fun shooting my Rossi 92 than any other firearm I own. It will shoot most any 38/357 I put in It as far as factory ammo goes. some of my cast boolits (swc) need to be seated pass the crimp to work in the action, with .357mag. Mostly I shoot a Accurate mould 140C crimped in the crimping groove with 15gr. of 2400 for just over 1800 fps. It works very well. I to have a SKS and It's not going any where. I shoot cast in It also. Your going to love that carbine.

I have a 16" .357 Rossi Trapper Carbine. I use it nearly every day I'm home from the truck. You will like it a lot.

I gave my son an ammo tin of 9mm and my Norinco 1911 and my wife another ammo of 38s and my Rossi at the range one day. I then got busy as the Range Officer and ran the range. Both tins were pretty well full of loaded ammo. Several hours later, my son came walking up towards me,followed by my wife. I said 'sick of it?' He replied, 'nah, we ran out of ammo. I was gob smacked, I will do a count one day on how many rounds of each an ammo tin will take. It is a lot though. As GH1 said, they gobble up ammo!

Boy do I love this lever gun!!!
It is so smooth,
Feeds pretty well to.

I tried it with the 158 SWC's and a full magazine feeds flawlessly.

My newest gun is 38/357 rossi with the 16 inch barrel. It shoots every bit as good as I can.Not nearly as smooth or anywhere near as easy to load as my henry big boy but i wasnt expecting it too.big boy is 45 colt and the firing pin has broke recently and they are sending me 2 free of course.Rossi seemed accurate with my 38spl loads with same point of aim box of fedral 357 shot 4-5 inches high but about as accurate otherwise from what i could tell.Hold it sideways work the lever and mine would jam up for sure. guarrenteed. So i just dont do that if i can help it. Loading it was a chore last round i would cram in with my pocket knife to get it to clear what i woould call loading gate ? knife made it way easier but my feeling and hope is that with some use it will loosen up a bit and get easier. didnt expect it to be as smooth as loading henry.Nonetheless, for the price it works and shoots as well as i would expect.I would buy another . Have some Fun yet Safe Shootin all.
