The front sight on my Winchester M1 Carbine is correct (that is, it's a real Winchester part), but at some time, it was arsenal refinished and parkerized. Naturally, it doesn't match the rest of the metal on the carbine.

I would like to strip the parkerizing off so I can blue it to more closely match the barrel. Is there a good way to do this that doesn't involve small tactical nukes?

Thank you,
Richard

Inhibited hydrochloric acid should work. Parkerizing is a mix of iron oxide with zinc-iron phosphate complexes and phosphorous acid is weaker than hydrochloric.
You can use 3/4 oz hexamethylenetetramine per gallon of HCl 34% as inhibitor.
