Hello to all! First time posting but long time lurker. I will start with a short intro...

23 years old, been shooting 1911s since I was 8-9, raised in the HVAC business and now my current profession, loading and casting for the past year and a half. Got some good .45 acp and .357 loads worked up. All my casting info and knowledge has come from here or the lasc website. Thanks!

Now to the meat of the post. I've got quite a few 1911s and I'm very strongly considering converting one to .460 rowland just for fun and, lets face it, everyone loves more power haha. But, as the bullet has to be seated deeper I'm wondering what mold would be appropriate for this.

I've been casting with a lyman 4 cavity 225gr hardball mold, but I'm really considering a flat point type bullet, even if its only 200gr. Seems the flat point would be better on game while still feeding reliably. The lee 452-200-rf caught my eye.

Any advice is appreciated greatly!

Caleb

I would get a 265 grain LBT WFN mold with a gas check

Check out this thread - the 265 grain Beartooth Bullet is some serious medicine

That looks like some serious medicine... I'm looking to cast my own, need to look for something like that maybe.

That is why I'm suggesting a 265 grain WFN LBT mold. Very nice molds and from Veral Smith, the man himself.

That mold would be something to be proud of and will maximize your 460 into a beast.

From LBT

45 AUTO

We offer three bullet profiles for 45 autos. The SWC 200 gr which is ever popular with target shooters because it cuts clean holes in paper for accurate scoring. The FNB duplicates a jacketed form very closely, with the nose clipped to make a flatnose. However, we consider the LFN to be the ultimate ACP bullet, in weights from 220 to 260 gr, with 220 and 230 probably giving the best live target performance because of their higher velocity potential. Order any diameter you want, plain base, bevel base, or gas check."

I'm just want someone to do something awesome as I can't afford to right now. My dream would be an XD conversion with the 260 grain LBT

Talked to them today. Very knowledgable folks. Will definitely be buying a few molds from them. Their style is right up my alley!

Thanks for the recommendation!
