Any thoughts using the NOE 311-247 Whisper bullet in a Rem 700 in 300 AAC Blackout with a 1:7 twist? Local shop has a few Rem 700 Tacticals in 300 AAC on the shelf. I was thinking the 1:7 may be a little fast if one wanted to shoot this boolet and especially lighter boolets above sonic; in NE you need to have 900 ft-lbs at 100 yds to be legal for deer hunting. I already have the mold and thought the rifle would be a fun plinker but would like it to be a viable hunting rifle as well.
Would this rifle as configured (1:7 twist) be pretty much limited to heavy cast boolets at low velocity?

Any experience shooting lighter wts at full velocity in similar twist rate rifle, such as 150's close to 30-30 velocities?

I bought the mold with intensions of possibly using it for NRA rifle silhouette it in 308 and 300 SAUM's for plinking and or deer hunting.

Thanks

I have the accurate mold 31-240e, which is very similar and drops 245-250grs depending on alloy. I also own the rem700 300aac tactical. I've shot the 31-240 over 10.2grs lil gun for 1245fps, room too work up, bullet stabilized at 100yds. That's about 840FPE but that's 10ft from the muzzle. At this time I'm saving these for short barrelled AR pistol.

For serious work in the field, I really like the noe copy of ranch dog 311-165(drops 170), I run it over 14grs lil gun for 1700fps(chrono from 10" barrel). This load shoul do about 1800fps+ out of 16" barrel. This load with a scope at 100yards will cloverleaf in either a 10" AR pistol or the rem700. I've run this load up to 14.7grs, but recoil in AR pistol was substantial. In normal rifle it's non-existent. I may do further testing and squeeze what I can from this load.

You will be just fine with just about any cast boolit as long as you stay away from the really light ones. My favorite boolit for the 300 is the Lee .312 155gr, feeds perfectly and should not have an issue the twist. Both of our 300's have the 1-8" and have no issues with anything between 155 and 247.

Given a hammer forged 1:7" twist barrel from Remington, you will never approach the velocity possible with 150 grain boolits in the 30-30 with any degree of accuracy. If you want a 30-30 hunting rifle that's easy to develop accurate hunting loads, get an old (pre-55) Marlin 336 or a Pre-64 Winchester M94 and RCBS 30-150, Lyman 311041 or RCBS 30-180-FN... depending on how large your deer are. RCBS 30-180-FN or LBT 30-180-LFN from my true Ballard rifled 336-A (24" barrel) would probably put moose meat in the freezer given well over 2000 fps is possible with these coupled with 1.0 to 1.5 MOA accuracy using Lyman #2 alloy.

I would not aim that Whisper boolit at a deer unless impact velocities of at least 1700 fps and 1.5MOA accuracy is possible using Lyman #2 or softer.

I'm fairly certain that 247gr boolit at 1400 would be plenty to do the job on a deer.

Thanks for the information --- Deer hunting with the Rem 700 in 300 AAC is really a secondary criteria. It probably comes from my Dad always asking every time I would show him a new rifle or cartridge he would ask "can you hunt deer with it"? It was his measuring stick of worthiness. I have plenty of deer worthy cast boolit capable rifles to use on deer.
I saw the rifle on the rack and the wheels started turning.
