View Full Version : How "blunt" do my boolits need to be?

I cast up some Lee C309-120R to try in my Model 94 Saddle Carbine. My 30 Carbine loves these boolits. I purposely used a flat top punch to blunt the noses a little for use in the tubular magazine 94. Am I good to go here? Thanks...Shooter73006

I don't think the standard nose profile of the Lee C309-120 R is a considerable concern in tube magazines. Jacketed spire points might be more of a concern as they are hard and pointy enough. A soft lead round nose, even hard cast RN is still softer than the primer cup. That, and the amount of recoil from the lighter boolit is likely to not have enough force to detonate the primer. That being said, the amount of flattening shown in the pictures looks good enough. I lube/size with a Lyman 450 and can adjust so that the amount of nose deformation is repeatable. I flattened to nose of my C309-120 R about the same when loading for the 30-30

No need to blunt them they are not hard enough to cause the others to go off.

I do not remember the last time the 25-35 was offered in factory loads with fp bullets.
